It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Spitting Pig. It seems that the heatwave has prompted many people to book us to cater for lots of different outdoor events – not that we mind! This week it included a surprise anniversary party for a lovely couple who have been together for an amazing 60 years.
The couple’s daughters organised the party and asked us to provide a buffet and a hog roast in Smeale. We have several different party menus to suit your budget, type of event and your tastes, and for this party they requested a spit roasted pig and crackling with stuffing and apple sauce, which is perfect with our bread rolls and sauces. We would also take along handmade beef burgers (which are 100% beef) and chef’s own gourmet sausages (one of my favourite dishes), as well as herb butter new potatoes and a lovely, fresh salad.
A week before the event, we received a call from one of the daughters, upset and worried and apologising profusely while asking if the spit roasted meat could be changed. This wasn’t a problem at all and we changed the hog roastĀ Smeale to free-range chicken, which we serve with stuffing and our amazing homemade onion gravy. It turned out the parents had just happened to say in conversation that they had both recently stopped eating pork; both daughters turned to look at each other in horror, thinking the party would be ruined! We love to do a good job and where we can we will try and accommodate your needs. No party should be ruined over something like that and if a company can’t deal with such a request a week out, then I don’t know how they stay in business!
On the day of the celebration, we set off early with our equipment and lots of yummy food. We set up the roasting machine, laid the serving table and got to work. More and more guests arrived and then, lastly, the happy couple turned up, looking gobsmacked by the wonderful surprise. There were tears and there was laughter and then we served up to a queue of happy people who couldn’t wait to tuck in to our fare.
