Pig Roast and Toast, Hog Roast in Ramsey.

Here at The Spitting Pig, we can cater for any kind of event that you can think of, whether it’s a corporate fundraiser, wedding, engagement, christening or birthday party. Yesterday, we catered for a bridal shower with a Hog Roast in Ramsey, which we don’t often do, but it was such fun that we would do it again tomorrow!

Lacie contacted us a few months back, to organise a hog roast for her best friend Julia’s special day. The cute shower invitation sent out to guests was titled ‘Pig Roast and Toast’, and we were to provide the pig to roast as well as some other select pieces of meat to be confirmed nearer the time. Sometime nearer to the day of the celebration, we met up with Lacie to decide on the final menu, and she had a surprise in store for us. Julia was by now pregnant, so she wanted us to provide two pigs for the hog roast now – one large and one small. Many of the guests didn’t yet know the happy news, so Lacie said Julia wanted it to be a double celebration – a bridal shower and pregnancy announcement.

On the day, we arrived nice and early to set up the two roasting machines. Even though it was an intimate affair with just close female friends and family members, we had a commercial machine for the large pig and a smaller machine for the much smaller one. By now, we realised this would be a hint about the expectant mother. Lacie turned up with a couple of signs hinting about this, too, to hang above the machines; one read ‘Mama pig’ and the other said ‘Baby pig’. We wondered if anyone would realise what this meant during the party…

Lo and behold, one of the guests clicked as soon as she saw the signs, and squealed with delight. The good news was passed around just as we were passing around our carved slices of joy to enjoy on soft, floury rolls and with our scrummy apple sauce and stuffing.

We had provided an awful lot of hog for this small party, but none would be wasted, as any meat that wasn’t enjoyed by the guests was saved for later, once cooled, you can freeze it and although it won’t taste quite as nice as when it’s just been roasted, you can still add the meat to lots of different dishes.

All in all it was a beautiful event and the Hog Roast in Ramsey was the perfect addition to the special announcement!
