We love a good birthday party as much as anyone, so we were excited to be invited to do the catering for Amanda’s 50th celebration at the weekend. Amanda is a new customer to us; having been recommended to The Spitting Pig by word of mouth and then coincidentally attending a delicious wedding anniversary spit roast of ours at her local pub the same week, she decided to hire us for her special day for a hog roast in Baldrine.
We spoke with Amanda in advance of her party, to sort out the menu that she wanted. First things first – which joint of meat would she prefer? She had never tried a hog roast and wanted a pig complete with its head for her birthday, which seems to be fairly rare these days, but still wasn’t a problem. We can provide all kinds of animals for your event or celebration, even for a hog roast in Baldrine – it doesn’t actually have to be pig. Nevertheless, Amanda said she’d dreamed of having pig in a bun, which is our speciality, as we often provide the hog, fresh bread rolls, stuffing and sauces for customers (not forgetting that crispy crackling that we get after cooking a hog for several hours).
The day before the party, disaster struck for Amanda. The venue she’d chosen was her back garden, but both the downstairs of her house and the garden unfortunately flooded due to internal plumbing problems. She had to temporarily move out while it was being sorted but steadfastly refused to let it spoil her birthday. However, she was still looking for a new venue when she called us to let us know there would have to be a change of plans. We put our heads together to try and work it out but thankfully one of Amanda’s friends stepped in and let her use her garden. Amanda was so grateful that we were willing to help, but it’s all part of our service and dedication to what we do.
The birthday party was full of joyful friends and family who couldn’t get enough of the hog we had roasted for 5 hours early that morning. Amanda’s verdict on the meat was, “Spectacular, incredible, thank you so much”, which we think is definitely a thumbs up.
